ANPP congratulates Pam Mendoza for her bronze level Louisiana Certified Habitat located in the Breaux Bridge historic district in St. Martin Parish. Pam's yard is a large traditional lot that she has steadily added more natives to over the past few years. Since 2007 she has cleared fence lines, removed invasives and overgrown azaleas. She has expanded her beds to showcase native trees like sweetgum and oak and shrubs like beautyberry, Turks cap and palmetto. Her diverse native forbs include coneflower, rattlesnake master, passion vine, coral honeysuckle, frogfruit, wormwood, penstemons, beebalms, mountain mints, copper iris, tickseed and more. Most have come to her garden as shared cuttings. Over time she has noticed more nesting songbirds, hummingbirds and fritillary butterflies and caterpillars. They have added to her tranquil backyard sanctuary that is framed by mature pecan and mulberry trees. Thanks, Pam, for greauxing native!
