Melissa Fournet celebrates her silver-level certification in Lafayette.
ANPP congratulates Melissa Fournet of Lafayette for her silver-level Louisiana Certified Habitat. Her large lot in an established residential neighborhood on Lafayette's south side has provided a grand palette in which to develop beds of natives mixed with non natives and sweet yard sculptures over many years. Original oaks and cypress are anchors in the landscape around which well mulch beds were planted with color themes. Many of her plants have come from friends' passalongs and local nurseries. The natives represent! She has pitcher plants, mature coral honeysuckle, irises, beautyberry, oakleaf hydrangea, Turks cap and special success with native azaleas. She has buttonbush, anises, Only half the yard remains in lawn, which is enough room for her spouse's astronomy hobby. She uses natural mulch liberally (pine straw and her own cypress needles) and her brick edging has a lush mossy cover. Pathways are pervious gravel.
