Larry Allain - Gold Louisiana Certified Habitat

ANPP congratulates Larry Allain for his gold certified habitat, Cajun Prairie Farm, in Arnaudville in St. Landry Parish. He has documented over 230 native species on their 12 acres, one of the largest species counts we have documented in the LCH Program so far!

The Allains' Cajun Prairie Farm is an ecologically designed and managed small farm with mid and early succession bottomland forest, a small pond, and a revegetated coastal prairie creating wildlife and pollinator habitat on working land. Primary crops include a market vegetable garden and orchard produced using modern concepts of agroecology, including regenerative farming, organic food production, free range poultry and rotational grazing. Larry and his son Andre are regular vendors at the Lafayette Farmers Market at Moncus Park. They also raise rabbits, pigs and laying hens, with plans to add sheep. Additionally, they provide tours, classes and an air B&B working farm experience. Those familiar with Louisiana's prairies will recognize Larry's contributions to what we know about its native bees and ecology. He was the impetus behind the USGS Plants of Louisiana site so many of us use. https://warcapps.usgs.gov/PlantID
