Congratulations to Kenneth DeSpain for his recent gold certification. This 2 acre lot, situated near the northern edge of the city is a surprise in the surrounding suburban area. Kenny reports that his soil is Memphis Silt Loam, and the elevation of his property is 59 feet. Since 2019, he has been trying to incorporate as many natives as he “can fit in” and he’s fit in quite a few! He has begun to develop an area of Cajun prairie as well as incorporating native woodland trees and shrubs. The property abuts a woodland on one side limiting sunlight in some areas, but providing a source of native woodland species. Kenny says “There are tons of insects and lately a wolf snail”. Kenny says he looks forward to adding more natives and continuing to develop his prairie patch.
