Kathleen Guinane and Brad Burkman celebrate their silver-level
certification in Arnaudville.
Kathleen and Brad are happy with their progress in increasing the number and diversity of native plants on their property over the years. They've noticed many native volunteers (e.g., Asters, Buttonbush, Leatherflower) that showed up when they stopped mowing the low area near Bayou Teche. Kathleen enjoys seeing the increase in wildlife sightings since they've gone native. Snakes, such as the Speckled Kingsnake, which we observed during our tour are a special interest to her. Kathleen and Brad are creating a prairie along the bayou and a small woodland edge upslope of their prairie. They look forward to upgrading their certified habitat to Gold in the near future.
