ANPP congratulates John and Kathleen Richard of Richard Sale Barn on their silver-certified habitat in Vermilion Parish. Their property is 5.7 rural acres with 200 yards bordering the Vermilion Bayou and hosts a drainage coulee. The terrain is a combination of swamp near the bayou and high wetlands near the road where the property angles up. John and Kathleen are motivated to preserve their property for both plants and wildlife of all kinds.
Their plant selection has been mostly keeping the natives that already grew here naturally with VERY minimum grass and tree cuttings. Necessary tree-cutting byproducts have been left on the property for the benefit of the wildlife. Since 2000, more native plants have been added to enhance the already heavy migration of birds and to keep the native wildlife happy. Their site was declared a National Certified Wildlife Federation site in 2001.
Thank you for greauxing native!
