ANPP congratulates Jessica Thornton of Rayne in Acadia Parish for the gold level Louisiana Certified Habitat on her property.
In three short years, Jessica has added many native trees, shrubs, vines, grasses and wildflowers to her small backyard in a neighborhood in Rayne. She gets many from Almost Eden Plants , The Urban Naturalist, ANPP, and friends. She is a wildlife biologist and Master Naturalist with a passion for birding, so she understands the great importance of native plants in their habitats and admits that native plants have become a passion. It helped that her yard was a "blank canvas" when she moved there, noting that "biodiversity has absolutely increased exponentially" since she began, especially insect life. She keeps tracks of animal comings and goings with a wildlife cam. Dexter the inside cat (shown here) gets to watch from the screen porch.
Thanks for greauxing native, Jessica!
