ANPP congratulates Jackie Carlisi of Broussard in Lafayette Parish for her gold-certified habitat! Jackie is a professional horticulturist whose thinking was changed by hearing Doug Tallamy speak at the St. Francisville Garden Festival a few years ago. Since then she says she has been "atoning" by planting more and more natives in her yard in an established neighborhood. She had been in this house over 10 years but for the past few years she has been adding more beds to reduce lawn, more natives to her established beds, and replacing non native trees with natives as needed. It's always exciting to review the native species count with an applicant and find out they have enough species for the next level! Jackie applied for silver but thought she might qualify for gold, and she did.
