Erin Bass - Bronze Louisiana Certified Habitat

ANPP congratulates Erin Bass for her bronze-certified habitat in the Comeaux Place neighborhood near downtown Lafayette. Her residence is on a corner, and the area lost two orange trees as a result of the hard freezes over the past several years. There is one orange tree left, and there was a lot of empty space around it. The corner is very open, and Erin wanted something visually appealing when flowering, but also plants that would be easy to take care of and come back each year. She planted the approximately 240-square-foot site in March 2023 with native plants from the Urban Naturalist, including mountain mint, coneflower, black-eyed Susan, sunflowers, Indian blanket, Coreopsis, and more. There is also a blueberry bush in the mix, so the hope is that the native plants will attract pollinators for the blueberries as well as the remaining orange tree. She also has a native bed outside her front door!
