Diana Lombana - Gold Louisiana Certified Habitat

Congratulations to Diana Lombana for her gold level Louisiana certified habitat in Lafayette Parish! After Hurricane Laura, Diana and her husband removed three trees from the backyard, which opened up space for many sun-loving prairie plants. Diana stopped mowing selected sections of the yard and started adding native grasses and forbs. She spread seeds in the backyard and eventually made a pollinator garden—complete with a water station for thirsty birds and bees. She also has a raised vegetable bed and has added many native trees, including buttonbush, black cherry, red maple, sassafras, native azaleas, red buckeye, and yaupon holly, to name but a few. Dwarf palmettos and a mamou plant line the driveway. Diana wishes to preserve Louisiana's flora and to support wildlife by providing habitat, and judging by the amount of bees and butterflies flitting around, she is doing just that!
