ANPP congratulates Courtney Scott on her bronze-certified habitat in the Freetown neighborhood.
Courtney’s residence is a 100-year-old home located in the Freetown area, with plenty of space for future garden endeavors. In 2022, the home was revitalized by a new owner who began planting natives with the help of the Urban Naturalist. When Courtney purchased the home last year, she knew that maintaining the native garden and building on it was paramount. She began her deep dive into the importance of native gardens to our ecosystems and has since added 17 additional natives from the ANPP nursery, with plans for many more to come.
Courtney has been amazed to see all the bees and butterflies showing up at her oasis where they can refuel and get their daily nutrients. She has plans to expand her native garden and if it looks anything like her front yard, the results will be stunning.
From the street, the blanketflower and coreopsis are center stage. Upon closer inspection, penstemon, bee balms, and irises dot the landscape, waiting for their moment to burst. With a variety of plants in different stages of bloom, the pollinators have a steady supply of food. The sweetest part of this certification? Courtney's neighbor gifted her the certification fee!
