Chris and Jarod started focusing on planting natives and improving habitat in their suburban home in DeRidder in 2022. Their yard is being converted, bit by bit, to a mix of native plants that they collect in nearby rights of way and ditches and purchase. Their lawn also contains a healthy mix of natives, naturally, including lady’s tresses orchids and the small winter grapefern and bulbous adder's tongue. They have dug a pond that is being planted with natives and will provide habitat for dragonflies and other aquatic critters. On the edge of their property is a tree line that took severe damage following Hurricane Laura. While cleaning it up, they made a serious effort to control tallow and privet that had infested the area. Today, the tree line is a wonderful place to spend time with a trail and a variety of plants including elephant's foot, beautyberry, and redbud trees. We look forward to watching their habitat grow over the years!
Thank you for greauxing native, Chris and Jarod!
