Bill Jones celebrates his bronze-level certification in Lafayette.
ANPP congratulates Bill and Elise Jones of Lafayette for their bronze-level Louisiana Certified Habitat. They bought the neglected property seven years ago for the huge oak tree and courtyard. They had to work hard to remove chicken trees and Chinese privet. The water feature, restored, created an oasis of calm. With the invasives at bay, they have added many shade-tolerant understory shrubs and kept the attractive exotics that have done well. They brought from their former home in Mississippi a Shumard red oak grown from an acorn from a special family tree. It has thrived since the move and complements a large live oak on the other end of the yard. They have added many pollinator favorites: tropical sage, coral honeysuckle, mints, coreopsis, indigo, penstamons, gaura, irises, buckeye and coneflowers.
